A publication organised by address
Mosaic Music Distribution covers French music now: who is on top, who is arriving, and what put them there.
The organising idea is geographic. French rap became the dominant genre of the last decade, and it moved the country’s musical centre of gravity out of central Paris and into the ring of suburban communes around it, into Marseille, and into cities that French pop had previously treated as departure points rather than subjects.
The site is arranged in four sections. Geography takes the cities and the suburbs as addresses. Now follows the artists carrying the chart. Labels deals with rooms, leases, catalogues and the arithmetic streaming imposed on the tracklist. Awards covers the quota, the ceremonies and the people who have to satisfy both.
Chart and award claims name their source and their year. Maps are drawn from real coordinates. Photographs are credited where a credit exists. Every piece is listed on the archive.
